Concerning ventilation in a shelter, it ought to be kept present that an adult individual at rest uses about 1.2 calories per minute and to generate them uses 250 cubic centimeters of oxygen, breathing on average 3.75 liters of air. Air contains about 21% of oxygen and, once breathed out, this percentage is lowered to 16.5% since due the the metabolic oxidation process the gas breathed out is carbon dioxide.
