SEND AND RECEIVE MESSAGES WITH WINPOPUP

When internal communications require you to send a simple message to a particular Win9x user, consider WinPopup.exe as a no cost, no frills method of getting the message across.

To use this messaging tool, type winpopup at the command prompt. This launches the WinPopup dialog window, where messages can then be configured and sent.

One useful feature of WinPopup is the Send Message To Workgroup option, which broadcasts a message to all users in a particular workgroup. However, users must have the utility running on their PCs to receive the message.

WinPopup is also used as an equivalent to the Messenger service in Windows NT by applications that need to send warnings out to users. For example, it can be used by an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) monitoring application to warn users when the unit is running on battery.

Make sure that WinPopup is properly configured at the user level so that they receive these warning notifications. Here's how:

From the Messages menu of WinPopup, select Options.

Check Play Sound When New Message Arrives.

Check Pop Up Dialog On Message Receipt.
NOTE: While the WinPopup utility is great for simple messages, it shouldn't be relied on for anything complex or critical.
