IS THE OPTION TO SEND A FILE TO THE DESKTOP
MISSING?
Rather than
browsing through thousands of folders each time you need to locate a
certain file, you may instead decide to save a shortcut to the file on
your desktop. To do this, you would normally follow these
steps:
1. Right-click on
the file.
2. Choose Send
To.
3. Choose Desktop
As Shortcut.
This is a
convenient shortcut to the file, but what if the option has disappeared?
This can occur if the Desktop As Shortcut.DESKLINK file is missing from
the \SendTo folder. You can resolve this problem by simply re-creating the
Desktop As Shortcut.DESKLINK file in the correct
folder.
Click on Start |
Run.
Type
explorer.
Select Folder
Options (or Options, depending on the version of Windows) from the View
menu.
Clear the Hide
File Extensions For Known File Types box from the View tab and OK your
change.
Navigate to the
\windows\sendto folder. From the File menu, select New and then click Text
Document.
Type Desktop as
Shortcut.DESKLINK.
Press Enter, click
Yes, and close Explorer.
