CENTRALIZING THE FAVORITES FOLDER FOR A GROUP OF USERS

The Favorites folder can conveniently give a user access to a group of commonly used shortcuts. If you would like your Windows 9x users to have the same Favorites folder contents, then try these registry edits to point the Favorites folders to an NT Server or Windows 9x computer-based share.
First run the Windows Registry Editor, Regedit.exe, and then navigate to the key below (NOTE: As always, we'll remind you that editing the registry can be risky, so be sure you have a verified backup before making any changes.)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellFolders and change the value of the Favorites key to the required location, i.e.

\\myserver\faves

Then locate the next key and do the same again:

HKEY_CURREUT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserShellFolders

Now each of the computers will point to the specified location for the contents of the Favorites folder. You will need to change the attributes or permissions on the central location if you want to stop users from adding to or deleting from the contents of the central folder.
