BEWARE OF MULTIPLE MS-DOS DEVICE NAMES IN PATHS
If a path to a file or folder contains an MS-DOS device
name (e.g., PRN, NUL, CON), Windows treats it as invalid. A path
containing two or more MS-DOS device names, however, is not treated as
invalid. Instead, Windows performs an illegal resource access operation,
which results in unresponsiveness and/or a crash.
This error typically occurs when a user attempts to
access a URL within a malicious e-mail or Web page since folders and
filenames cannot be created with reserved MS-DOS device
names.
The problem can be fixed with downloads of ifsmgr.vxd
for Win95 and Win98, including SE. Each downloads a simple
.exe.
