ARE YOUR SPOOL FILES DELETED?

You may find that you run out of disk space if you rarely reboot your Windows 95 computer and it has completed a large number of print jobs or a few large print jobs. Here's the problem.

When the printer is set to print and there are specified EMF formats in a printer definition, the spool files are not removed until Windows 95 is restarted. The spooled files collect as files with a .shd extension in the \windows\spool\printers folder.

The easiest way to clear the problem is just to restart the computer, but if this is likely to be a recurring problem, you could try setting the printer to print after the last page is spooled. The spool files will then be deleted after the print job has finished.

To do this, follow the procedure below.

Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Printers.

Right-click the required printer and select Properties from the context menu.

On the Details tab, click Spool Settings.

Click the "Start Printing After Last Page Is Spooled" option and OK your changes.
