. The god playing the gods in the mind of man and the gods playing the god in the mind of man . |

No stage of culture, no great religion, has ever been able
to disown some of the commonest heirlooms left by primitive modes of
thinking. Now we do have to realize that the god playing the gods in
the mind of man and the gods playing the god in the mind of man, mutually
interdependent and acting in symbiosis, are real, tangible and non-external
to ourselves and they simply make us that which we are: humans!
We can trace these gods back to nearly six thousand years before the present moment so much so as we can trace them within ourselves in this very moment. What has changed with the flow of time from those times where pure animism and totemism shrouded in mythology painfully but steadily evolved to spiritual doctrines and hence to the great established religions and tenets to the present is our comprehension of ourselves and, as well, of the forces acting on our environment and on ourselves. From the ancient archetypes dictated by the incomprehensible forces of nature to the archetypes dictated by the hectic times into which we live and thrive, however, much has changed: what is shaping our minds now is taking different forms, we do not see flying dragons anymore in our nightmares but rather the image of an exploding nuclear weapon; no more the tree of life in our dreams but rather the looming angel of death roaming about every corner of the planet not with a scythe in his right hand but laden with contemporary weapons of death and destruction. We have advanced far indeed from the mythological monsters, totems, gods and goddesses on the road of rational knowledge reaching the knowledge of the structure and the working of the human brain and the comprehension of the human psyche, the knowledge of the exact laws of nature and their exploitation wherever feasible, the incredible technology at our disposal which has shrunk our planet so much so that we can go around the whole of it in a few hours and which has put us in space, unlimited real-time communications with the antipodes or any other corner of the globe - and at this very juncture we have lost ourselves in the pursuit of all the bounties given us by our present evolutionary progress to the exclusion of the most fundamental human traits. It is hard to say if with all the horrors and the blood impregnating them the established Churches have been more benign than malignant to our progress - we can perhaps, yet dubiously - grant them the status of a disciplinarian, yet cruel and crude utility which, to the point where they presently stand, might very well cease to be to the advantage of all the inhabitants of the globe. Leaving behind the past and all that history has bequeathed us and looking at the present stand, we see Christianity as heathendom, a pagan religion of idolaters well way-off from the principles which inspired it. Judaism still in the hands of an ancient cruel and vindictive god. The great Islamic Monotheism advocating laws which are no more tenable in the contemporary world. Brahmans still holding caste-systems, persecuting Sikhs, openly or covertly at war with Mohammeddans. Heads of State in the Christian word in this year 2003 speaking of " crusades " or saying " We should be conscious of the superiority of our civilization, which consists of a value system that has given people widespread prosperity in those countries that embrace it, and guarantees respect for human rights and religion. This respect certainly does not exist in the Islamic countries. Europe must revive on the basis of common Christian roots. " And, finally, this 2003's political hypocrisy and turmoil which is setting the ground for a far-fetched global instability and relapse into barbarism. Hermeneutics (the science and methodology of interpretation) as applied to mythology, anthropology, comparative religion and the analytic studies of the human psyche together with that which history has left on its long trail, has been a most useful tool as through it we have now reached the conscious knowledge that - albeit we are not pleased to admit it - we are on the wrong track, that we do not really need religion so as it is now - no matter what religion - but, if religion we need it ought to be a code filling the gaps among imagination, fiction, pure paranoia and utopia; in other words a system building a bridge among the world's populations so that they stand on common ground, a common denominator for the world's welfare with a universally accepted platform of beliefs and laws based on rational and firm basis. Nothing else can save us from doom as ignorance and superstition are synonyms of doom. This vast planet is becoming constantly smaller so much so as populations increase, resources dwindle and the ecosystem is spoiled and no doubt, we, the collective body of humanity, are the god behind this state of things. Humanity is made up, yes, by billions of individuals but humanity is not so much so the sum of these individuals, humanity is an organism in itself and by itself. It is an organism which needs this beautiful planet to survive while, conversely, this beautiful planet does not need humanity to keep along its cosmic destiny but rather, at the present state of things, it would rather get rid of the noxious organism which we actually are in respect to the earth. No superhuman agency, no transcendental entity is bringing this about: we are responsible for it. No god will punish or reward us for what we are bringing about or setting in store for the future generations, we will be our own punishment or reward accordingly with the path we choose. The collective intelligence of this organism, purified from superstitions and untenable cults and doctrines and spread out harmoniously on the planet is the only way to avoid catastrophe; the collective intelligence of this organism is the only true, real and tangible god which can save us and there will be no damnation for us but lest we choose it, here and now. |
