My companions got deeply upset when they saw what I was up to since I had kept my plan to explore the island secret, but they could not change my mind. The waters were turbid, nowhere could I see the lake's bottom and a few meters under the surface they turned extremely cold. The sudden thought that I was the only living organism in those lifeless waters did give me some moments of uneasiness. |
